What Will My Social Security Check Be in 2027?

The one-line math: take your current monthly benefit and multiply it by the COLA. At the current 3.5% projection, every $1,000 of benefit becomes about $1,035. Or skip the math — the free CheckDay calculator does it in ten seconds and switches to the official rate on October 14.

Worked examples at 3.5%

Your check todayEstimated 2027 checkMonthly increase
$1,200$1,242+$42
$1,500$1,552+$52
$2,000$2,070+$70
$2,500$2,587+$87
$3,000$3,105+$105
$3,500$3,622+$122

Amounts are rounded the way SSA rounds — down to the nearest dollar after the deduction math. If the official COLA lands at 3.6% instead, add roughly one extra dollar per $1,000 of benefit.

Two things that can change your final number

  1. The Medicare Part B premium. For most retirees it is deducted straight from the check, and the 2027 premium is announced separately in the fall. A $10 premium increase quietly takes $10 off the raise you just calculated.
  2. Tax withholding. If you have federal tax withheld from your benefit, a higher gross check can slightly change the withheld amount too.

When the money actually arrives

Your birthday falls onYour January 2027 payment day

11th – 20thThird Wednesday — January 20, 2027
21st – 31stFourth Wednesday — January 27, 2027

Two exceptions: people receiving SSI get the increase with the payment dated December 31, 2026, and people who started benefits before May 1997 are generally paid on the 3rd of the month.

Check the math against your official notice

In December, SSA posts your exact 2027 amount in your my Social Security account and mails a COLA notice. If the number there differs a lot from your own calculation, the difference is almost always the Medicare premium — not an error.
